Boot Camp – Before and After

Before 3 months of fitness boot camp

After 3 months of boot camp

This summer I have exercised. A LOT! Almost every day. I began All Out Fitness Boot Camp the last week of May and have loved it. On the days I’ve not gone to camp, I’ve run outside or done exercise videos. I feel great. As I posted before, at first I was discouraged because my weight didn’t change. I sweated every. single. day and ate healthy foods (whole foods, little sugar, lots of water!) for four weeks before I lost even one pound!

I’d forgotten that I’d taken the “before” picture. It was actually taken in December ’09 as a “before” shot for P90X. However, I never did it. Daniel and I tried but he quit after a few days because he found the program aggravated his back. I just didn’t have what it took to go solo so I quit too. These pictures are accurate for my condition before beginning boot camp because other than walking sporadically, I didn’t exercise much between taking the pic and the start of camp.

After three months of working out about an hour a day six days a week, I can say I am truly glad I did! I’ve lost about 7 pounds which isn’t much, but I feel wonderful! I’ve never done strength- training. I’ve always considered myself a cardio-girl. However, I am now sold! Strength-training plus cardio is the way to go! I feel stronger! … And my fitness tests prove that I am. My push-ups in a minute have tripled and I can run a mile in under 9 minutes! (For me, that is huge!) While my weight on the scale hasn’t changed dramatically, I am two sizes smaller. I’ve learned to put the scale away because the numbers do not give an accurate picture of body fat. I’d rather weigh more and be stronger! And I’ve learned that when you are developing muscle strength, good things are happening even if the scale doesn’t say so!

I’ll be 40 in just a few short months and my desire is to face this decade with health and fitness on my side! The “after” picture for boot-camp is my “before” picture for P90X. I’m going to continue to go to camp one day a week but now that summer has ended, I must do something at home because evening workouts don’t suit our fall schedule. This time I’m going to stick with it! I love challenging myself to get stronger! Once my day begins, it’s so hard to stop and exercise so the key to success for me will be getting up early.

Any readers/friends successfully done P90X? If not, what are some of your favorite home workouts?

You look fantastic! Maybe you can advise me when I’ve dropped this baby load and get ready to be purty again.

Thank you all so much! Now comes the tricky part… exercising during the school year when my plate is overflowing!

Wow!! I am impressed Tina :) . Good for you, I keep wanting to exercise, but just never get around to it. It seems like I either do well with my quiet time OR I exercise (sometimes sadly it is neither :( . I need to make myself get up earlier and just do it! I have heard great things about p90x but have never tried it myself. Isn’t a set of pretty intense workout dvds?

    Kristi,

I haven’t exercised regularly in years until this summer. A huge personal goal for this school year is to get up, have quiet time and exercise before starting school with the kids. It’s been relatively easy to exercise this summer because I dropped all lessons (at home and away). Keeping it up is going to be a challenge to say the least. I do have an accountability partner and that will help! Just start small. The 30 Day Shred is a good dvd because it is only 20-25 minutes. That is my back up for the days I can’t get in a longer workout. Blessings!

Way to go Tina! That is awesome!!!!! Say, if you aren’t using your P90X you wouldn’t let a sista borrow it for a while before we make the purchase, would ya? Kent and I have been talking about getting it but not sure about spending the money. I am Matron of Honor in a wedding in 7 short weeks and, well I know that losing 50 lbs. isn’t realistic, but anything would be better than the current. :)

Heather, Thanks. I have thought about deleting this post because it is not my desire to bring attention to or focus on physical improvements of exercise. However, it is a praise for me to report that consistent exercise is worth it. Also, it has been a life-long process for me to learn to take the focus off the scale. When I found this “before” picture, I could not believe so many changes were going on because the scale was barely moving. In three months, only 7 pounds are gone. However, I feel so much better and have gained muscle! So, I hope this post will be taken as encouragement to those discouraged.

I am using the P90X videos as my main exercise program for the next three months. However, we’re going on vacation soon and you are most welcome to use them while we are at the beach. I am leaving Sept 10th and will be back the 17th. I could bring them to the first TT (Sept. 9th) and get them two weeks later. Hopefully that would give you enough time to see if you’d like to purchase them.
